Nearly all modern diesel cars are fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and some with AdBlue systems to boost the cleaning process. If the car is used in ideal conditions these filters are capable of lasting in excess of 100,000 miles without problem. These systems are designed to self clean or if that isn't possible, the driver may get a warning indicating that higher speed driving is needed to allow the regeneration process to start.
The first step in DPF repair is for us to see why the filter is blocked. Remember, a blocked filter is a symptom and not the cause. Whether its due to a running fault or just driving habits. With the wrong driving cycle or prolonged use of the car with engine management faults, the filter can clog with soot causing loss of power, poor fuel economy and in extreme cases, the engine will no longer run.
